A KERBSIDE glass collection is set to be launched in the borough in September.
The scheme is part of Wellingborough Council’s new bin collection contract which starts in April 2011.

As a result it is gearing up to launch a publicity campaign in two months’ time outlying the new scheme. Wellingborough is the only council out of its neighbouring authorities of Kettering, Corby, East Northamptonshire and Northampton which does not operate a kerbside glass collection but will soon be falling in line.
The new contract will also include container glass, mixed plastics (including yoghurt pots, food trays), aluminium foil, aerosol cans, TetraPak containers and plastic bags.
Chair of Wellingborough Council’s community committee, Cllr Malcolm Waters said: “This is good news all round.
“We have been working on this for more than 18 months and I am very pleased that at long last we are able to get this started.
“We are geared up for this to start and there will be no further expenditure for residents.
“They will use their green bins for the glass.”
Launching this scheme will help the council’s recycling rate which stood at 34.55 per cent in March.
