Bruce sends Saints to defeat

Northampton Saints dropped to third in the Northamptonshire Cricket League Premier Division after suffering a six wicket defeat away to Peterborough Town.

The match pitted the sides that were first and second at the start of the day. Having won the toss the hosts opted to bowl first and they dismissed Saints for 159.

Lewis Bruce was the man who did the damage, claiming 4/38. Connor Cunningham then hit 68 not out and Matt Pateman contributed 58 as Peterborough chased down the target in 44.5 overs.

Old Northamptonians continued their recent good form as they overcame Rushton with a six wicket win at Billing Road.

Afaq Babbar took 5/39 after the ONs chose to bowl first on winning the toss, but 60 not out from Bradley Armer and Kieran’s Pierce’s 52 helped the visitors to 189/8 from their 55 overs.

Martyn Cory then cracked 78 from just 48 balls, with 12 fours and two sixes, in his unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 111 with Rory Darkins (72 not out) to see the hosts over the line.

Northampton Cricket Academy did enough to hold out for a draw in their game at home to bottom side Wellingborough Town.

Richard Curtis top scored for Wellingborough after they were made to bat first, falling two runs short of his half century as they closed on 192/6. Ryan Findlay took 3/30 for the Academy.

In reply, Tyrone Roach (3/52) and Sam Owen (3/42) were the pick of the Wellingborough bowlers, but they were unable to dismiss the county’s young cricketers as they finished on 182/8.

Steve Musgrave’s bowling condemned Brixworth to an eight wicket defeat as they went down away to Wollaston.

The away side were invited to bat first and Musgrave tore through their line-up with 6/23 as they were all out for 106 inside 45 overs.

Matthew Jones led the reply for Wollaston with 50 not out as they took just 24 overs to reach their target for the loss of two wickets.
